On 9 and 10 May 2026, the Bulgarian village of Galiche, Municipality of Byala Slatina, will host the Folklore Festival “Danforovi Rhythms” – a competitive music event that is part of the Championship System of the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF). The forum holds the status of a Local Folklore Championship for the Northwestern region of Bulgaria and will provide participants with the opportunity to qualify for higher stages within the championship hierarchy.

“Danforovi Rhythms” is organized by the “Roden Dvor” Association in partnership with the Community Cultural Center “Prosveta 1910” – village of Galiche, and is part of the Euro Folk Music Festivals. The system unites more than 45 festivals in various European cities under the auspices of EAFF. Among the leading events in the system is the Balkan Folk Festival – Stara Planina Gathering, recognized as Festival No.1 in Europe for traditional folk arts.

The competition program is open to folklore ensembles, vocal and dance groups, choirs, folk dance clubs, groups performing old urban songs, brass and folklore orchestras, as well as individual performers and duets. Groups that do not wish to be evaluated are also welcome to participate under the same conditions. The festival program includes an official opening and closing ceremony, parade, accompanying concerts, master classes, and additional events.

The Grand Prize winner will receive a gold medal, a diploma for Absolute Local Folklore Champion 2026, and a cash award of €250. Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded in the respective categories, along with special prizes for authentic and stage costume, musical accompaniment, artistry, soloist performance, and more. The jury may also issue recommendations for participation in National, Balkan, European, or World Folklore Championships.

Those wishing to take part in the Local Folklore Championship “Danforovi Rhythms” must submit an application form accompanied by an annotation, photos, and a demo recording or video link. The organizers invite all groups and performers to apply and become part of the competitive stage in the village of Galiche in May 2026.
