From June 4 to 8, 2026, the town of Hisarya will host the 14th Balkan Championship of Folklore “Euro Folk – Aqua Viva 2026” – a prestigious international format that brings together the traditions of dozens of nations in one place. The upcoming edition is part of the Championship System of the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF) and provides an opportunity for the best performers to qualify for higher stages, including the World Championship “World Folk”.

The event is organized by Euro Folk Academy, Event Vacation, Hisarya Municipality and “Ivan Vazov 1904” Community Center, under the patronage of the European Association of Folklore Festivals – EAFF, a UNESCO partner. All concerts will be professionally recorded, and the best performances will be broadcast on EuroFolkTV and online streaming platforms, turning the championship stage into a global showcase of authentic culture.

The format is competitive, with a jury authorized by EAFF and evaluated according to international criteria. Participants may include vocal groups, folk choirs, dance ensembles, orchestras, ritual groups, individual performers – with no age restrictions. All participants have the opportunity to be ranked in the World Folklore Ranking.

Hisarya’s hosting role is no coincidence – the ancient Diocletianopolis, known for its mineral springs and Roman fortresses, provides a unique backdrop for presenting cultural heritage. Participants and guests will also have the chance to join sightseeing tours to Starosel and its archaeological complex, turning the festival into a complete experience – art, history, and culture in one place.

The goals of the championship remain clear: a stage for performance, promotion of national traditions, cultural exchange, friendship, and mutual respect among nations. In 2025, 200 groups and more than 3,500 participants proved once again that this is one of the largest and most prestigious folklore events in Europe.
