The day has been celebrated since 2018 on the initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with the aim of promoting traditional elements of folklore from countries around the world and encouraging their preservation. This day also marks the anniversary of the publication (in 1846) of an article in London, UK, by British scholar William Thoms in the magazine *Athenaeum*, in which he used the word "folklore" for the first time as a unifying term for the customs, practices, and local traditions of different peoples. The EAFF team wishes a joyful celebration to all bearers and lovers of folklore!
