Over 300 folklore groups and individual performers from all ethnographic regions of Bulgaria as well as two foreign groups will participate in the this year’s edition of ХVIII edition of Stara Planina Fest “Balkan folk 2014”and in the conducted along with it Bulgarian national championship for folklore “Eurofolk 2014”. This will be the fifth edition of the championship and it is part of the championship system of the European association of folklore festivals.  

The total number of participants will reach over 5 000 people, which will establish the two forums as the largest in the region. The festivals begin from 8th May and they will continue till 18th May. Organizers are the European Association of Folklore Festivals – EAFF, Euro Folk Academy and Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo.
In the program are scheduled six concerts, from 10:00 till 21:00 on the stage of the Summer Theater in Veliko Tarnovo on the dates 9, 10, 11, 15, 17, and 18 May. 

The official opening is scheduled for 10 May from 19:30. On the same day from 14:00 is organized concert of formations for liturgical chants in “Sveti Nikola” church in Veliko Tarnovo. This year there will be also participants from Poland and Moldova. They are Students Hoghlander Ensemble at Kayrakliya, Taraklia area, Republic of Moldova. In the program of the fest will take part artistic collectives and individual performers from all genres – national choirs, ensembles, orchestras and dance groups, collectives for old urban songs, classical, touristic, patriotic and liturgical songs, without age limits.

The organizers have prepared prizes, certificates of merit and honorary signs, winner diplomas, discovery diplomas, diplomas for significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of the traditional Bulgarian national arts and the competitors in the National championship will be awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals, diplomas, Orpheus prize, and they will receive ranking points for the World rank list. The winner in the championship and bearer of Grand Prix will receive also cash award of 1000 BGN, provided by EAFF.

In the jury list will take part prominent folklorists and choreographers – Mihail Dyulgerov, Georgi Yankov, Ivan Danchev, and Valentin Halvazhiev. The festivals will be closed officially on 17th May at evening in the Summer Theater. Media partner of the events is the news website “Sever.bg”. The concerts of the fest and the championship will be recorded with the most modern audio and video technology and they will broadcasted live on internet-television “Euro folk TV”. The best of them will be broadcasted multiple times on more than 50 cable televisions in Bulgaria and by the satellite televisions “BG TV”, “Travel TV” and “Heros TV”. With these activities is realized the primary goal of Musical Feasts “Euro folk” – “The World is a television” for popularization of the traditional national arts through the vast opportunities of the mass medias.
